Hi, I’m Ryan, CEO at SumoJerky.
I've always enjoyed reading the stories of how other companies got started so I thought I'd share ours.
First of all, I'd love to take credit for the idea, but I can't.
SumoJerky was started in September 2013 by Noah Kagan (employee #30 at Facebook, employee #4 at Mint, and founder of AppSumo).
At the time, Noah was spending about $100 - $200 a month on jerky and loved trying new flavors so he wanted to start his own subscription jerky club.
Through conversations with friends and co-workers, Noah learned that most people prefer not to think too much about the jerky they buy. In other words, they didn’t want to spend hours researching flavors, ingredients, prices, etc. They just wanted healthy jerky on hand and were open to trying different varieties.
So Noah created SumoJerky, a jerky club where members could get different kinds of delicious, healthy jerky, delivered to their door once a month.
From the beginning, Noah focused on finding special, small batch jerky makers that our members couldn’t find easily on their own.
It’s a tradition we continue today as we work exclusively with top-rated jerky chefs in the US. Each month we receive new batches of samples from artisan jerky makers and do internal tastings to rate their jerky.
Our first requirement for the jerky we deliver is that it’s undeniably delicious. From there, we seek jerky that’s minimally processed, minimally preserved, and low sugar.
You would be surprised how much jerky we have to reject either because the taste isn’t a good fit or because the ingredient list has too many preservatives or low-grade ingredients like corn syrup, wheat, & soy.
Ultimately, we select one artisan jerky brand every month and deliver their most delicious flavors to our members.
If you at all like beef jerky and want access to the best in the world, I’d like to invite you to join our 330+ members and give SumoJerky a try.
It’s perfect for anyone who eats jerky for weight loss, muscle-building, or daily snacking.
